$35,000 Grand Prix of Jacksonville

January 15, 2007 – Jacksonville, FL – On Sunday, February 4, 2007, the annual $35,000 Grand Prix of Jacksonville, to benefit the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds.  Other events for the day include the Outback Steakhouse luncheon at 11:30 a.m., a Celebrity Ride at 1:00 p.m., featuring local TV, radio, politicians and sports personalities, and the Silent Auction beginning at 10:30 a.m. and concluding at 12:45 p.m.  In addition, children’s stable tours, pony rides and games will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in conjunction with live broadcasting by Radio Disney.   Admission to the grounds is free, with a $5.00 parking donation.  All proceeds from this day’s event benefit the Jacksonville Zoological Gardens.  Tickets to the Outback Steakhouse luncheon are available by calling the Zoo at (904) 757-4463, ext. 200.  Adult tickets can be purchased for $35 and Children ages 6-12 for $12, Children ages 5 and under are free.

For over 90 years, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has been dedicated to inspiring the discovery and appreciation of wildlife through innovative experience in a caring environment. Starting in 1914 with an animal collection that consisted of one red deer fawn, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has grown to house more than 2,000 rare and exotic animals and over 1,500 unique plant species. The Jacksonville Zoo is a non-profit organization and is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).  It is open year-round, seven days a week, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is located on Jacksonville’s north side at 370 Zoo Parkway, one-half mile east from I-95.  For more information on the Zoo, log on to www.jacksonvillezoo.org.
