TREAT GRANDPARENTS TO THE ZOO ON THEIR SPECIAL DAY
Special Free Admission Offer -Sunday, September 13th Only

September 11, 2009 – Jacksonville, FL – Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens announced its first annual Grandparents Day “buy one/get one free” offer.  For each grandchild that pays full price for admission, a grandparent will get in free this Sunday, September 13, 2009.

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is the largest public garden in Northeast Florida, with beautiful trees and flowers lining the pathway and exotic gardens that are lush with flowers and greenery. Guests can also enjoy seeing over 1,400 rare animals, including our two newest additions:  Harry, the nine-month-old jaguar and Twiga, the three-month-old giraffe.  They can feed the giraffes at the Giraffe Overlook, Lorikeet birds in Australia and pet and feed the Stingrays in Stingray Bay.  And be sure to see the Zoo’s newest exhibits: Asian Bamboo Garden and Komodo Dragon.

Electronic scooters and wheelchairs are available for rent, and there are lots of places for snacks or lunch.  One last stop at the Mombasa Gift Shop for a memento will have grandparents talking about this experience for a long time to come.

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has been dedicated to inspiring the discovery and appreciation of wildlife through innovative experience in a caring environment. Starting in 1914 with an animal collection that consisted of one red deer fawn, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has grown to house more than 1,400 rare and exotic animals and over 1,000 unique plant species. The Jacksonville Zoo is a non-profit organization and is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).  It is open year-round, seven days a week, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is located on Jacksonville’s north side at 370 Zoo Parkway, one-half mile east from I-95.  The Zoo is open until 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays from March to Labor Day.  For more information on the Zoo, visit www.jacksonvillezoo.org.
