Job Title

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently seeking an experienced Pest Control/Browse Technician.  This position will be responsible for managing the pest control activities in animal, guest and service areas. Methods used would include, but not be limited to, pest exclusion, spray applications, mechanical traps, and baiting in compliance with local, county and state guidelines.  Candidates must have excellent communication and observation skills with attention to detail and possess excellent record keeping skills. 

In addition to the responsibility of pest control, this position will cut plant material on and off grounds to be fed by keepers as browse to the animal collection. 

This position requires a high school degree or its equivalent.  A basic understanding of chemistry and math skills are required.  Applicants must have a valid Florida driver’s license and either possess, or attain after hiring, Limited Government/Private Certification from the State of Florida as a Pest Control Operator.

Physical requirements include tolerance of regular exposure to chemical hazards & odors, be able to stand, walk and transverse zoo grounds on foot, be able to stoop, bend, lift, kneel, crawl, climb, jump and carry up to 50 lbs. without difficulty.  Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, wind and rain.
