Meet Harry!

Dear Friend of the Zoo,

Did you know jaguars are a threatened species? Their rain forest natural habitat is drastically shrinking and in captivity, jaguar births have decreased significantly.  There have only been nine births in the past twelve months, as reported by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.  Your gift to the Annual Fund will help reverse this downward trend through jaguar breeding protocols here at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens! 

Harry, our first jaguar birth since 1981, was born on January 1st.  He’s cute, inquisitive and an important birth in the world of jaguars.  Harry represents a significant new genetic bloodline for the jaguar captive breeding program since his mother came to the Zoo directly from Guyana.  Our Zoo has the largest jaguar collection in North America and we are poised for achieving innovative results in our breeding protocols.

The Annual Fund provides support not only for jaguars, but for ongoing Zoo operations, our education programs and other conservation initiatives.  As a friend of our regional Zoo, we are asking for your help in keeping our park beautiful, our animals well cared for (with growing populations), and our educational programs reaching more children.
